So you might think that jealousy and envy are the same thing but donāt be fooled they have their own little twists.
Even though itās normal and common to feel these emotions, I find it funny that this is a recurring state of being for a lot of people in the 21st century.
Jealousy simply stems from inadequacy.
A lack of self-esteem and poor self-image caused by unrealistic expectations heightened by social media is the root cause of this epidemic.
Whereas-
Envy on the other hand is the feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck.
It is important that we sit with our thoughts and ask ourselves why weāre feeling all these emotions.
I donāt have a problem with feeling jealous or envious at all. Itās just the way we approach things when dealing with these specific emotions which needs some change.
A prolonged amount of jealousy leads to envy.
Have a good think about itā¦
Whenever we feel jealous and envious of someone, our minds are instantly occupied with malicious thoughts towards the person we temporarily detest.
Even though we may not act upon those thoughts, the idea and intent remains the same every single time.
So what do we decide to do about it?
Bring others down just for the sake of our own selfish gain. We feel obligated to destroy someone elseās tower out of āfearā in order to protect our āgainsā.
If there is one thing you want to takeaway from this weekās newsletter then just remember this;
When a person goes to incredible lengths just to verbally or physically hurt someone in hopes to selfishly protect their āgainsā. Just know that the cowardly act is nothing but a reflection of their insecurities in their own abilities.
Youāre now asking yourself āHow on earth can I stop feeling jealous and envious?ā
Here are a few useful tips:
Practice gratitude. (be happy for what you have in your life, accept that youāre more privileged than others)
Focus on the broader perspective. (It reduces your ignorance and brings in more truth to your life)
Change your mindset towards competition. Instead of feeling threatened, be happy for the person who accomplished whatever they set to do. (Being kind to this new contact might benefit your career in the future. Attitude is everything.)
Your work should speak for itself. There should be absolutely no need to go out of your way and waste time by devising plans to knock someone down.
āJealousy is an inner consciousness of oneās own inferiority. It is a mental cancer.ā ~ B.C. Forbes
Acting upon jealousy and envy is an act of sabotage.
Not only are you alienating yourself from everybody around you but you are also actively distracting yourself with something that does not deserve your energy.
Let us say this togetherā¦
There is enough room in the world for everybody to succeed.
Donāt be a downer like Debby and slow down that work ethic of yours for the sake of planning some stupid act that will backfire for sure.
Kindness always wins and just know that when you interact with anybody, make sure you treat them with respect because you might just be looking at the next CEO of Disney, Google, Amazon, Netflix etc.
Over and out Zoomers :)
