Success is a mixture of various things.
Yet we only focus on the accumulation of wealth. Why do we neglect the other parts of success though?
It is because society in the 21st century only values monetary gain as “real” success. Unfortunately this financial gain is a boon that so many people struggle to obtain.
So labeling this as the only form of success couldn’t be further from the truth.
Our definition of success evolves as we mature and progress to different stages of our lives. With maturity we learn that money isn’t the only route to this ever elusive word.
The truth is success is what we make of it.
It can be any of the following;
A happy marriage
An amazing relationship with your parents
Raising your children
Battling any disease and recovering
There are so many more things that success can be attributed to apart from wealth. Although money does play a major part of it, it isn’t everything. You will soon learn to realize that as you get older with each passing day.
The definition of success itself is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose and that single goal is subjective to everybody.
That is the beauty of life.
One of my favorite songs of all time is “Nate” which is from an American rapper known as “NF”. Here’s a part of the lyrics from his song that resonates with me the most.
“[…] you might get a glimpse of happiness from your achievements
But what you'll learn as you get older, every time you reach one
Is you'll just make another goal that doesn't lead to freedom.”
After a certain point in time your ambition can work against you. Strange I know but so many people become a slave to it after tasting a bit of glory.
The ambition you once had to succeed is now not for achieving your purpose but rather to satisfy your desires which are never ending and that my friends is nothing but greed.
You hate to admit it.
You’re in complete denial.
but that’s until…
BAM
Life hits you in the head with the shovel again (Can you tell I’ve watched too much Tom and Jerry?)
Ultimately, it all comes down to asking yourself “Why am I doing this in the first place?” the golden question.
Once you remember your true purpose and realize that wandering within the maze of greed is of no good then you will do whatever it takes to find your way out and put a ceiling on your desires.
And that’s what I call success.
Over and out Zoomers :)
