I couldnât help but ponder on the fact that we are only twenty one years into this century but already achieved so much as a species.
To put things into perspective, I made a quick list to remind you about how much has changed since the year 2000.
3.8 Billion people now have smart phones (thatâs 48% of the worldâs population!)
Amazon prime is your only loyal best friend.
Self-driving cars exist.
Buying a ticket to space is totally possible. (Only a mere $250,000, no biggie)
There are robotic humans and dogs being created.
Swiping on dating apps to kill time when youâre bored is gen-z tradition.
People are buying pixelated digital art (or NFTâs) for millions of dollars using cryptocurrencies.
There are so many more positive and negative changes that have taken place over the past two decades. However, the point of the list above is to show that the creators of these things had one thing in common and that is the initial-
SPARK OF CURIOSITY or lifeâs only useful itch as I like to call it.
Let me explain.
Humans are inherently curious, itâs a core characteristic thatâs part of all of us.
It is the reason why we managed to land on the moon 52 years ago!
It is also the reason why we have developed telecommunications so strong to the point where you can facetime someone who is 20 hours ahead or behind you and talk to them in real time! (How crazy is that?!)
Everybody is curious.
The amount of subconscious media we consume forces us to be that way but it only plays a part in finding our purpose.
Todd Kashdanâs article about âThe 5 benefits of curiosityâ beautifully describes curiosity to be;
â[âŠ] the entry point to many of lifeâs greatest sources of meaning and satisfactionâ
Hereâs how I would formulize the journey of finding your purpose in life:
(Stage 1) Curiosity or Gifts + (Stage 2) Aims & Values + (Stage 3) Passion + (Stage 4) Relentlessness = Purpose.
If you were to tell me that this formula is skewed or biased as it only provides clarity for people who seek a purposeful life through their work then I would not disagree with you.
Although that was the case for me, I want to stress that;
Everyoneâs journey of finding their purpose is equally special and valid in their own right. Whether that be work related or just a change in lifestyle, the end result is the same.
Some of you might already be harnessing your talents and working towards improving your abilities in your respective craft which is brilliant! You have taken the first step towards living a fulfilled life and I applaud you for that.
If you are reading this and think you have no talent or donât know what makes you happy then-
All I ask from you is to take the first leap and be curious about ANYTHING. (Crochet, singing, car reviews or whatever) The main idea is to find an activity that makes you happy.
Next thing you know, you will find yourself creating an aim and implement your values into this activity that you are curious about.
BUT WAIT
Letâs not rush to find that purpose of yours.
All good things take time and there are plenty of obstacles to face along the way and thatâs why Iâm here to make sure you take the right steps in each stage as you navigate this berserk world.
Ultimately, whatever journey you choose to embark on, you will need to incorporate these stages progressively and trust the process to hopefully look in the mirror one day with joy knowing that you are living your dream life-
EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Over and out Zoomers :)
