Purpose.
A seven letter word so simple yet so complicated.
Life has not made it any easier to obtain this boon.
We live in a world that is driven by numbers and external validation. You can now compare yourself to someone across the world who you donāt even know every second of the day.
It is important that we know the definition of what purpose actually is before we try to chase it for ourselves.
The University of Minnesotaās article on āWhat is Life Purpose?ā defines purpose to be;
ā[ā¦] your central motivating aims of your lifeāthe reason you get up in the morning.ā
Now let us understand the point of having a purpose in the first place. The University of Minnesota exemplifies that;
āPurpose can guide life decisions, influence behavior, shape goals, offer a sense of direction, and create meaning.ā
People find their purpose through various means as illustrated by the University of Minnesota who state;
āFor some people, purpose is connected to vocationāmeaningful, satisfying work. For others, their purpose lies in their responsibilities to their family or friends. Others seek meaning through spirituality or religious beliefs. Some people may find their purpose clearly expressed in all these aspects of life.ā
To summarize, the beauty of purpose is itās subjectivity and uniqueness to each individual.
No matter what your purpose is, the feeling of bliss is the same.
Your purpose creates a flow and slows down time as you immerse yourself with the task at hand enabling you to be at peace with yourself and the world around you.
This has several notable emotional, physical and psychological benefits like a longer life span, better heart health and memory plus so much more!
Now that we know the point of having a purpose in life and some of itās many benefitsā¦ let me start with sharing my purpose in life at this point of time.
My purpose in life now is to express my values through my work. Whether thatās with a film, this newsletter or any project that I undertake, the purpose itself remains the same.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing other people resonate and identify part of themselves with the projects that I share online. This is what enables me to wake up every single day contented.
My goal is to enlighten you through this newsletter so that you can experience the same amount of happiness and more just by unapologetically living your truth!
Although this journey may seem daunting at first, I promise that it gets better with every step forward.
Everybody needs to start somewhere and now is the time to look at yourself in the mirror and commit to a self-discovery journey like no other!
Over and out Zoomers :)
