Now that YOU made the amazing decision to continue following your dreams, let us focus on a commodity that we all initially take for granted but yearn for later in life.
TIME.
One thing I learned early on while pursuing my journey towards a purposeful life is that there is never enough time in the day⊠especially when youâre a teenager in high school.
Countless distractions.
The pressures that come along with school and your social life donât make it any easier to focus on what matters most⊠your purpose.
When I was in year 12 (or Junior year) of high school. I broke down what I did in a day and who I spent time with.
Although this may seem totally unnecessary for a normal sixteen year old, it did help me draw out the noise. By noise I mean all the negative people, distractions, drama and everything that came in front of me and my dream.
Even though youâre laser focused, it gets tough.
How you ask?
You feel alienated because of your ambition.
Consumed by it as you work towards that single goal day in and out. People you once obsessed over continue to live their lives as normal.
This little bubble that youâre enclosed within is so fragile.
On one hand youâre committed to the process of finding your purpose.
On the other hand, you think everybody is talking about you behind your back and are waiting to pounce at the first opportunity they get to laugh at your failures.
The truth is⊠nobody really cares.
No one is thinking about you. Theyâre just thinking of themselves just like you ~ Helen Fielding
Weâre often in our own heads battling these âdemonsâ which really is just our mind playing games with us.
Once you know that nobody is bothered with your goals and that youâre just fabricating these intense gladiator scenes in your head then youâll be well on your way.
Just make sure to keep a tight grip on your answer to the golden question which is âWhy am I doing this?â.
Now why does creating time = sacrificing things?
In the beginning I struggled to say ânoâ to outings with friends even though I was busy because I cared too much about what they thought.
My social image was just way too important to let go of but that was until I asked myself a question that would change everything.
The question was;
âWhen I turn 25 and happen to be broke, will the people I am currently surrounded with help me out in any way?â
P.S. this isnât a dig at my friends at all.
Theyâre all amazing people doing great things but I didnât make any exceptions to the concept because I donât like playing with odds.
If you really take a moment to sit down and ask yourself the same question then youâll have your answer to why its good to sacrifice things for your purpose.
This isnât to say that you should not go out and have fun at all but rather have some accountability with the time you dedicate towards your curiosity / talent.
The longer you spend learning and doing, the faster you make progress and thatâs a fact so donât try to cheat the system by taking shortcuts because it just wonât work.
(It takes 10,000 hours to be âgoodâ at your craft so put the work in)
Do NOT confuse this as a measure for success.
âPeople are willing to get short-term gains at the risk of long term choicesâ ~ Rick Rubin
At the end of the day, regardless of what I say. YOU need to have fun on this journey otherwise thereâs no point because you will lose grip on your answer to the golden question.
If you are incredibly rigid with your schedule and time that you put into your craft then good! If you are a person who likes to take things at their own pace then that is equally amazing.
Ultimately, it all comes down to progress and consistency so keep at it and I promise you, the grass is always greener on the other side.
